Under-10 6th May at Ballea Park, Carrigaline  V Carrigtwohill

On Bank Holiday Monday evening, the Carrigtwohill Under-10’s travelled to Ballea Park in Carrigaline to take on Carrigaline Utd A in another round of CSL fixtures. 23 of the Under-10’s made the trip to the fabulous facilities at Ballea Park, playing out a blitz of 3 no. side-by-side 7 aside games, following the FAI Player Development format.

They had worked hard in training during the week on positioning, playing out through the back from kick outs, utilising the wings, as well as tackling. It was brilliant to see all of the work done in training being brought to into play during the games in Carrigaline.

This series of small sided games continues to aid the development of our players. The effort and attitude, as well as loads of skill and confidence, being displayed on Monday evening by all players, was extremely encouraging.

A big thanks to hosts Carrigaline Utd, whose like-minded sporting attitude to these non-competitive games is brilliant for all the kids.

Well done Carrigtwohill Utd u10s – keep up the good work!

Under-11 8th May at Lakewood Lakewood – 3 Carrigtwohill – 8

Another fantastic display by Carrigtwohill Under-11’s last Wednesday evening saw them progress to the last 16 of the local cup with an away win over Lakewood Athletic A. Four goals in the opening 10 mins blew the opposition out of the water (Cillian 2, Roan and Rian) and shows how determined these boys are to make an impression in this competition. Morgan Foley added a fifth before Lakewood replied, 5-1 at the break.

The move and goal of the game came early in the second half when Roan won the ball in his own defensive third and drove through the midfield, Lakewood not knowing whether to pressure or retreat with Carrigtwohill breaking right and left in support, the Carrigtwohill no 8 teased the Lakewood defence out and at the right moment played a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Cathal Seymor on the right who let fly from 15 yards without breaking stride. The home team rallied and scored the next 2 goals (a penalty and direct from a corner) but a heavily deflected shot from Sean Og and Cillian’s 3rd would wrap things up for the visitors. Man of the match is shared by Roan O’Keeffe who had a superb game in the middle of the park and Niall Barry whose positioning and no nonsense defending was excellent. A huge effort by all 10 players again, well done boys

Under-11 5th May at Maulbaun Passage V Carrigtwohill

On a glorious Sunday morning, the lads travelled to Passage in the latest round of games. The pitch, setting and weather was perfect for football and we had a great turn out with nearly 20 players involved.

The games were very well contested against two good Passage sides. The lads as always gave everything and really try to play their passing game. There were great performances all round today, super goalkeeping, solid defensive work and some nice attacking football. Well done all

Under-12 7th May at Ballyadam Carrigtwohill – 1 Lakewood – 5

Carrigtwohill suffered their first loss after a winning streak of a dozen games to a Lakewood premier side that were deservedly worthy winners. The lads struggled to cope with the early pressure from their opponents who went two nil up early in the game. Sensing a huge defeat Carrigtwohill changed formation to 3-4-1 to try and contain the visitors. Moments later Carrigtwohill made their first attempt on goal as Leroy got to the end of a looping pass that was comfortably served.

Midway through the half Alex Lombard came in for Brian Healy with Jayden dropping from midfield to the right back position. A ball from Dennis on the left found Amany who laid the ball well for Alex Lombard who coolly slotted it into bottom corner to lift the spirits of the home side.

Half time came with a lot of hope and preparing for a possible come back. This was not to be as the visitors took the game to Carrigtwohill and Sebastian had a busy day saving shot after shot. To be fair our backline had heroic day as Dennis, Jayden and Alex Lombard had a lot to do to keep the score line descent. Lakewood proved far superior in midfield and going forward. Carrigtwohill were limited to few sporadic runs at their backline from an isolated loan striker upfront.

The visitors got another from a goal mouth scramble before another own goal as pressure mounted.  The Carrigtwohill forwards could have got another crack on goal towards the end if they didn’t keep on passing the ball in the box but that was as much as they could do. The match ended with all smiles and complete sportsmanship from both sides as they gave all they could, but succumbed to a well drilled premier side.

Man of the match deservedly went to Sebastian who was singled out by Lakewood coaches as the best keeper they had faced in recent games
